What is your role in the team?

I joined FTI as an associate after graduating from university. I am part of the insolvency team within Corporate Finance and am currently working on a variety of different insolvency cases whilst also studying to become a chartered accountant.

What are your main responsibilities on a day-to-day basis?

My main ongoing day to day responsibilities include accounting and cashiering for insolvency cases, handling creditor queries, drafting statutory reports and carrying out financial analysis. I am also often required to undertake one off tasks on specific cases. I have recently been involved in a trading administration which has involved preparing due diligence information to assist with a sales process and preparing cash flow forecasts.

What is your greatest achievement/proudest moment/highlight so far?

I have worked on a number of interesting cases however one of the highlights so far has been my involvement in the high profile sale of the Whitgift Shopping Centre in Croydon in a multi-million pound transaction which has paved the way for a complete regeneration of the town centre. I was also very pleased to recently pass my penultimate set of accountancy exams.

What training and support have you received so far?

After joining as an associate I began studying for the ACCA qualification alongside my work responsibilities. This has involved attending courses during the week and making use of study leave days. FTI is very supportive in this. I have also attended several external technical courses and made use of the various internal training sessions available. Perhaps the most valuable training however is the skills I have learnt on the job through working on new aspects of cases and gaining knowledge from colleagues. Everyone in the department has a team mentor to help with career development.

What attracted you to FTI’s graduate scheme?

I was attracted to FTI due to the opportunity to join a growing team in an exciting and challenging industry. The chance to work on projects across a range of industries and the support given around training and career progression was also a key attraction.

What sort of people do you work with?

As well as working closely with other members of the insolvency team I have worked with colleagues across Corporate Finance and other departments at FTI on specific aspects of projects. I also work with lawyers and agents on insolvency cases and have frequent interactions with creditors and other outside parties.

How did you come to be on this graduate scheme?

I have always had an interest in business and finance which was enhanced through studying economics at university. I came across the job advert while looking for jobs in that area after I had graduated. After doing some research into the restructuring and insolvency profession I applied for the role and fortunately was successful in the interview process.

What have you been involved in outside of the day to day?

As well as working hard at FTI we also find time to play. I have enjoyed the team away weekends over the last couple of years, the last of which was in Barcelona, and have got involved in other events such as the FTI tennis tournament. There have also been opportunities to get involved in graduate recruitment which I have found interesting.

What do you most value about working at FTI Consulting?

The support from the rest of my team has been great throughout my time at FTI. I have also valued the opportunity to work on a range of challenging projects with plenty of learning opportunities.
